Birmingham Ceremonies was responsible for the Opening and Closing Ceremony for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Gunning Marketing created the copy for official ceremony publications, delivering content fit for a global audience and a landmark occasion.
Birmingham Ceremonies was the production company appointed by the Organising Committee for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
We were brought on board to provide copy for the Closing Ceremony programme and Opening Ceremony commemorative book that would be given as a souvenir to cast members, VIPs and volunteers.
The aim was to capture the nature of the games and links to Birmingham’s history, while serving as a memento of the ambitious event.
The Opening Ceremony was produced by Steven Knight CBE, the creator of Peaky Blinders, and directed by Iqbal Khan, a globally renowned, Birmingham-born theatre director.
After receiving a briefing on the structure and background of each sequence, we carefully crafted the copy that wove together every element of the ceremony, from the athletes assembling to Birmingham serving as the heart of the Industrial Revolution to the detail behind the impressive puppets and gigantic mechanical bull. We took a similar approach in putting together the programme for the Closing Ceremony.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games were hailed as a great success, and thousands of copies of the programmes and booklets were distributed to attendees and participants.
